All Things New - Prayer & Fasting
Every move of God throughout the generations has been prepared and fuelled by the prayers and devotion of the people. So as we push into a 100 year vision, we want to bring our everyday, ordinary lives before God and surrender to the one who truly is making All Things New.
We know that for some of us fasting alongside prayer is a familiar idea, while for others it may be quite new. Whatever the case we want to invite everyone to get involved. This will look different for each of us; for some it will be a weekly fast, for some monthly or some may want to fast a meal a few days every week as they pray. The goal isn’t the amount but the desire to surrender and come before God, offering our devotion to Him.
To help get us started there is some information below on the area of fasting, along with some ideas to guide our prayer.

Fasting is an act of worship - we show Jesus that we love Him more than our own comfort. It is voluntarily giving up something we normally consume or do so that we can increase our focus on God. Fasting may look like giving up one meal a day, or you may decide to fast for a whole day. Sometimes for various reasons fasting from food may not be possible for us; instead we could fast TV or social media for example. Here’s a short piece about fasting from our friends at 24/7-Prayer.
As we fast, let's set aside time throughout the day to pray into what it looks like to see ‘All Things New’ in our city wide family.
What does it look like to see healthy family established in our city? As we set time aside to pray and fast it may be helpful to use the following categories to guide our prayer:
Family of Faith: Pray that our city will meet with Jesus this year. That they will know His love and re-orientate their lives to follow after Him.
Family of Provision: Pray for those in our community who are in need, that this would be a year of abundance and fullness
Family of Resilience: Pray that we would be a community that is emotionally and mentally healthy and whole
Family of Connection: Pray that we would love our neighbour as ourselves, that we would see isolation exchanged for connection
Family of Purpose: Pray that our city would be a city of purpose, that we would give our lives to something bigger than ourselves
Family of Health: Pray for healing for our city, that we would be a community of vitality and life.
We are expectant about what God is going to ignite in our hearts and lives during this year and for the breakthroughs we are going to see as a result of devoting this time to God.
