He Is Able / Day 2


Ephesians 3: 14-21

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.


What are you expecting from 2017?  Perhaps you have made some resolutions or set some goals.  They could relate to your health, relationships, career, habits or diet.  Maybe even your spiritual life.  It's great to set goals and have plans for achievement and change in our lives. However, most of us set our goals based on our personal ability and past experience. We limit them to what we think is possible and attainable.  

What if we invite God's power into the process?  What if we include His ability to work in our lives?  Might this raise the bar a little?  Could this cause us to stretch further and aim higher in what we would like to see and experience in 2017?

In Ephesians 3 Paul tells us that God "....is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine..." (v. 20)  In other words, our biggest dreams and grandest ambitions don't even come close to what God could do in us and through us.  Most of us make new year's resolutions which involve a few minor changes or behavioural tweaks.  They normally involve stopping something bad and/or beginning something positive e.g. stopping smoking and starting to exercise.  As commendable as these are - they are simply too small.  You can attain them in your own strength and ability.  They make take some discipline and willpower, but they are fairly achievable.  However, when you add God's power into the equation, it causes you to think beyond your own ability and strength.  He invites us to begin to dream the impossible. Imagine the incredible.  Supersize your goals.  Turn your petty resolutions into a profound revolution.  Instead of simply stopping something - you could change everything!

There is a power available to you this year which is greater than your personal willpower. There is a strength beyond your own ability.  As you partner with Him, limitations are lifted and boundaries are broken.  Expectations expand and goals become greater. We begin to see the invisible and dream the impossible.  Our God is a "more than" God.  Don't make Him "less than" all He could be and do in your life this year.
