Tackling poverty

Sunday Food Giveaway

Vision of the Sunday Food Giveaway

To create a warm, welcoming environment where people suffering from food poverty can come on a designated day and time to pick up a food pack in a way that maintains their dignity and honour.

Our GOAL is that no one in the Causeway Coast area
should have to go hungry!

(Within this environment there is also the opportunity for individuals in need to connect over a coffee and dessert with our volunteers)

What

The Sunday Food Giveaway seeks to serve the needs of those people in our community who struggle to afford food for themselves and their families.

Why?

There are 100’s of people living in the Causeway Coast area who struggle, through no fault of their own, to buy enough food each week to get by. We, as a church, are deeply passionate about our town and feel it’s God’s desire that we would serve the poor, in every sense of the word. We believe that in serving the poor and meeting a little of their need, not only are we providing help but we are also demonstrating the heart of Jesus for those we serve. All our food packs are given free of charge with absolutely no strings attached.

“Whenever you did one of these things for someone overlooked or ignored,
that was me, you did it for me” ~
Jesus

How?

The Sunday Food Giveaway works in conjunction with various charities and agencies to provide food to those who are most at need within our community. These agencies refer their clients to the Sunday Food Giveaway to get food packs for themselves and their families. Through our Sunday Food Giveaways, we want to provide fresh produce like breads, meats, fruit and vegetables to supplement the long life tinned and dried food also contained usually in a Food Pack.

The long life food is donated mainly by individuals within the Causeway Coast Vineyard, while other foods are donated by local bakeries, butches, wholesalers and grocery stores. Our Food Packs contain an assortment of food which we hope should cover a family for 2-3 days.

How do I get involved?

The simplest and most effective way of getting involved is to provide food. We challenge individuals to buy at least two extra items every week as they do their shop and then bring them to the Vineyard church for our Store Room. This is very simple and of little cost but changes lives dramatically.

We also ask local businesses within the food industry to donate some of their own stock, while other business outside of the food industry could sponsor the purchase of a pallet of some of the essential items – ie tinned soup.

We also need over 30 volunteers every week for various tasks like collecting donations and helping with the distribution on Sundays. So if you know of anyone else who would like to be involved more please contact Ricky Wright – 02870 833335.
