Sunday Food Giveaway
Date: Sunday, 22 July 2012
Time: Every sunday: 2-3pm
Where: Causeway Coast Vineyard
Category: Other
The Food Giveaway was set up in 2009 as a means of serving the needs of people in the community who struggle to afford food for themselves and their families. The aim is to create a warm, welcoming environment where people suffering from food poverty can come on a designated day and time to pick up food in a way that maintains their dignity and self-esteem.
Every Sunday from 2pm – 3pm Food Packs are distributed to individuals and families in need. Guests are referred by various statutory, charity and community groups. The free Food Packs contain an assortment of food which should feed an average family for 2-3 days and comprise one bag of long life goods (tinned, dried foodstuffs) and one bag of mainly fresh produce (fruit, vegetables, meat, chilled items, frozen goods and bakery goods). Each guest has a certain amount of choice depending on what donated goods are currently available.
Over 550 individuals or families have come to the Food Giveaway, feeding an average of 45 individuals/families weekly. Free food packs are available to any individual or family who find it difficult to afford food for themselves or their families.
